The outgoing caretaker Chairman, Hon. Tajudeen
Lanre Awosemon left the office on 10th January, 2008 while the new Chairman Hon. Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi was sworn-in as the newly Executive Chairman Ife East Local Government by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the Executive Governor of Osun State on same day (10/01/08). He (Oluomo Gbenga Owolabi) also sworn-in members of Legislative Council, the Vice Chairman and the Local Government Secretary.

Ife East Local Government was one of the additional Local Government created by the regime of the Late General Sanni Abacha in December 1996, but which eventually took off on January 20th, 1997 at Enuwa, Ooni of Ife Palace Ground premises in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.

The Local Government shares boundaries with Ife South Local Government, Ifetedo in the South West, Ife Central Local Government, Ajebamidele, Ile-Ife in the North West, Atakumosa West Local Government, Osu in the North East and Ife North Local Government, Ipetumodu in the North West.

  Achievement
1.
Purchases of a Mercedes Benz Mobile Clinic Van.
2.
Extensive support for the National Programme on Immunization (NPI).
3.
Purchase and distribution of Chairs and tables to all the school
4.
Rehabilitation of Akogun road (200m light).
5.
Street lighting along some streets (109 fittings).
6.
Provision of accommodation and payment of monthly stipends to NYSC members.
7.
Donation of the sum of N250,000.00 to NTA, Ile-Ife.
